LIPEDEMA THERAPY
Lipedema is a chronic medical condition that primarily affects women characterized by bilateral, symmetric buildup of adipose tissue (fat) and fascial restrictions in the legs, arms, buttock and lower trunk regions.
Lipedema is often associated with generalized pain, tenderness with touch, swelling may or may not be presenting, and bruising. Nodules are typically felt under the skin in areas of fibrotic restriction.
The intensity of pain may range from none to severe, and its frequency may be constant, intermittent, or only occurs when the tissue is touched. Lack of awareness, poor or no diagnosis lends to women not receiving timely or proper treatment.
At Freedom Massage & Lymphedema Clinic we provide safe and effective treatment of lipedema based on latest research findings and clinical experience.
Treatment includes massage techniques targeting fibrotic regions, manual lymphatic drainage, use of various modalities (radiofrequency, cavitation (ultrasound), cupping, pneumatic compression, electrical muscle stimulation, PEMF and laser. Effective compression garments can be fitted to manage daily swelling and discomfort.
Treatments are modified according to the patient’s presentation, goals, pain tolerance and areas of lipedema.
The goals of treatment are to:
• Manage local and generalized pain
• Reduce fibrosis and fascial restrictions
• Decrease tissue density (adipose tissue)
• Reduce Inflammation and improve lymphatic flow
• Reduce muscle and joint pain with increased mobility and movement
• Minimize fatigue with strengthening exercises and movement
• Provide home care solutions for active participation in treatment results
